In order to create compelling instruments, I always have to experiment a lot—with materials, shapes, possibilities of movement, spaces and resonances, different tunings and scales, and the combination of all these factors. When seeking to understand how sound is created and what it ultimately evokes in the realm of the spiritual and mental, it is helpful to engage all the senses and make sounds perceptible even for the sense of sight or touch (see "sounds to feel and see").
